本片以原始纪实与情景再现的艺术方式，表现军人孟祥斌舍身救人的英勇事迹和由此引发的当地人民深切缅怀英雄的动人故事2007年11月30日上午，金华城南桥上传来了“有人跳江了”的救命声。解放军驻金华市某部副连职机要参谋孟祥斌身着便装带着妻子叶庆华和3岁的女儿经过，纵身跳进冰冷的江水，他用尽最后一丝力气将女青年托出水面，落水者得救了，他却沉入水中，再也没有起来。
