巴克（约翰·坎迪 John Candy 饰）是一名快乐的单身汉，既然一个人生活，那么在日常中，他难免会大大咧咧笨手笨脚些。本以为一个人的生活会一直持续下去，谁知道某一日，哥哥鲍勃（加勒特·布朗 Garrett M. Brown 饰）和嫂子辛迪（Elaine Bromka 饰）邀请他到他们家做客，并且将他们的三个孩子托付给了巴克照料。
