未婚夫的意外死亡让格蕾（珍妮弗·加纳 Jennifer Garner 饰）陷入了痛苦的深渊之中，除了取消了近在眼前的婚礼之外，她还不得不搬出那幢她和未婚夫共同拥有的豪宅。天无绝人之路，在好友山姆（凯文·史密斯 Kevin Smith 饰）和丹尼斯（山姆·贾格 Sam Jaeger 饰）的帮助之下，格蕾总算是找到了容身之所，可事情并没有因此而结束。 一次偶然中，格蕾发现了未婚夫隐藏多年的秘密，格蕾质问未婚夫的好友弗雷特兹（蒂莫西·奥利芬特 Timothy Olyphant 饰）才知道，原来，未婚夫和一个名叫莫琳（朱丽叶特·刘易斯 Juliette Lewis 饰）的女人有过一段露水情缘，留下了一个如今已经七岁的孩子。然而，当格蕾亲眼见到了莫林和她的孩子时才发现，她又一次的陷入了谎言之中。
