好心的流浪汉比尔和九岁的孤女苏在街头邂逅后，比尔担起了照顾苏的责任。两人平日在街上一大一小、一唱一和地招摇撞骗，以求得一日三餐，生活虽然窘迫却也乐趣无穷。\r\n 一日，两个人想从年轻富有的女律师葛蕾那里骗取一顿丰盛的大餐，于是设计让葛蕾误以为自己撞到了比尔。然而不料，这对落迫“父女”上演的苦肉计却深深打动了葛蕾的心弦，她不顾未婚夫的反对，坚持收留了他们。比尔和苏就这样不可思议地从原来的贫民窟搬进了女律师的豪宅，过上了做梦也没想到过的舒适生活。\r\n 经过了多日的相处，葛蕾对苏的悉心爱护让比尔渐渐感觉到，苏真正需要的应该是一个像葛蕾这样有的爱心的家长和一个温暖安定的家，于是他决定将苏留给葛蕾照顾，自己则重拾过去独自流浪的生活。然而他那个机灵鬼似的小跟班苏却没那么容易甩掉，在一连串看似闹剧的故事后，三个人的命运都发生了意想不到的变化……
