露丝（梅兰妮·林斯基 Melanie Lynskey 饰）是在康复中心上班的护士，实际上，她自己也患有抑郁症，正在服药进行治疗。在经历了非常倒霉的一天后，露丝疲惫的回到家中，震惊的发现自己的家遭到了歹徒的洗劫，值钱的笔记本电脑不翼而飞。巨大的压力让露丝感到，自己离崩溃不远了。 第二天，露丝撞见了那个经常让狗狗在自己家院子里方便的可恶男人托尼（伊利亚·伍德 Elijah Wood 饰），之后，露丝的手机搜索到了绑定的电脑所发出的信号。露丝报了警，警方却不愿意帮她，无奈之下，露丝只得找到托尼帮忙，想不到托尼一口答应下来，并且很快就付诸了行动。
