美国某海军陆战队的直升机频频出事，少校凯利负责调查。一天，凯利在坠落的直升机里偶然发现螺旋桨的残损齿轮有质量问题，于是，凯利拿着那个有问题的齿轮准备报告顶头上司霍华德。
但令凯利万万没想到的是，这块残损的齿轮，其中藏有军火商和军方要员相互勾结，以劣质飞机零件进行幕后金钱交易的真相。而自己的顶头上司霍华德正是军方的主要成员。少校凯利因为知情，而招来了杀身大祸。为了保护6岁的儿子，他奋不顾身地扑倒在强尼身上，最后被暗杀者用乱枪打死。儿子强尼受了高度惊吓，从此不说一句话，整天拿着那个玩具，从不离手。
