主人公Marcella Backland（Anna Friel）是一名年近40岁的女侦探，11年前因为结婚而离开了自己热爱的警察工作。Marcella的婚姻突然终结——她的丈夫Jason（Nicholas Pinnock）突然宣称自己不再爱她并快速离开了她——女儿又躲在寄宿学校里不肯见她，她只好回到既熟悉又陌生的大都会警署命案调查组重新探索自己的人生道路。
