在学校里，凯瑟琳（劳拉·琳妮 Laura Linney 饰）是一位受人尊敬的历史老师，在家中，她又摇身一变成为了支撑家庭的顶梁柱，波澜不惊的生活逐渐成为了压在凯瑟琳心中的一份负担，但她如此迫切的想要改变生活的原因还并不在于此，而在于她发现自己竟然患上了癌症，而凯瑟琳决定将此作为自己的秘密，一直保守下去。
