深夜时分，一对兴致勃勃的情侣来到公园里一块不大的湖中游泳，不料被一个突如其来的漩涡卷走。3年后，自然大学地质学院组织了一次考察，目标是城市边缘的一块空地上突然出现的一个巨大坑洞，妮娜参加了这次考察。3年前，妮娜曾是这座城市里最大的矿井——法斯特纳矿井的工作人员，妮娜的父亲赫斯以及哥哥迪克也在这座矿上工作。然而3年前的一次矿难让妮娜一家的生活彻底发生了变化，父亲在被困12天后侥幸逃过一劫，但却亲眼目睹了迪克的去世，从此一家人都远离矿井，告别了原来的生活。但巨大坑洞的发现令妮娜又萌生了不好的预感，果然，通过一系列高科技的探测手段，妮娜得出了一组惊人的数据，这个坑洞只是冰山一角，更大的塌陷将一触即发。
